Forward Dane: Phase Metrics Explained

Dane County Status

As we all know, Public Health has released Forward Dane - a plan for the phased reopening of Dane County.

Something I want to dive into a bit more is how Forward Dane includes the use of metrics to guide the gradual reopening of Dane County and lays out what requirements will be in place during each reopening phase.

This is the link to the page where you can stay up-to-date on the Dane County Status (they are supposed to be updating it weekly): https://www.publichealthmdc.com/coronavirus/data

Moving Through Phases

To move to Phase 1: all Dane County metrics must be yellow or green.

Phase 1 to Phase 2: more than half of metrics must be green and Epidemiology criteria ("percent positive tests" and "cases per day") must not be red. Will be assessed 14 days after implementation of Phase 1, then assessed regularly until criteria met.

Phase 2 to Phase 3: more than half of metrics in Dane County must be green, and no metrics in Dane County and the Southern Region can be red. (Southern Region metrics will be provided on this site when relevant to our current phase.) Will be assessed at 14 days after implementation of Phase 2, then assessed regularly until criteria met.

Phase 3 will be continued until widespread protections are available (i.e., vaccine).

As of May 22nd

As of May 22nd, Dane County Status qualified for Phase 2. So, as long as we maintain this status for the next 12 days, Dane County should be moving to Phase 2 by June 9th.

What Does this Mean for Kilkenny?

Since the pool isn’t opening until the weekend of June 12th-14th, Dane County could be in Phase 2 by the time we open! Phase 2 would allows us to open the pool at 50% capacity which brings the number of patrons allowed at the pool at a time to 66!
